Prisons have been present in the Palace since the end of the XVth century. The most ancient cells were on the ground floor: the first one on the left of the present entrance, the others were on the mezzanine and can be seen from the long corridor.
The episcopal princedom of Trento ended at the beginning of the XIXth century, as a consequence of Napoleon's invasion; thus the Bavarian government turned the palace into a courthouse for Fiemme, Fassa and Primiero Valleys. The cells were used until the end of that century.
